Five Ways To Prevent Stroke
As to what really causes stroke is hard to tell since this condition is caused by a number of factors. Although it can happen to anyone, there are still ways to keep this from happening.
1. Regular check-up. It is hard to draw conclusions without basis and it is much harder to claim that you are healthy without a medical professional backing your claim. As we age, a lot of bodily changes take place. Though we have been healthy when we were younger, we can't be sure that we are still in the same stage when we reach adulthood.
Regular check-up will help you identify any changes be it harmful or not. If you have relatives who have high-blood pressure, high cholesterol or had a history of stroke, then this should serve as your motivation. Remember that prevention is still better than cure.
2. Exercise. Move your body and burn those calories and fats. These fats can turn into plaques that can narrow your blood vessel. And with a narrow blood vessel there will surely be a decrease in the volume of blood being circulated.
There are also times when these plaques get dislodged and eventually occlude smaller vessels especially those located in the brain which will subsequently result to stroke. When you exercise, you use energy. In order to have energy, your body has to burn your energy sources like those fats and stored calories.
3. Avoid vices. Vices are also culprits. Alcohol and cigarettes can cause a build up of fatty substances in your body which means that the more you indulge yourself with these vices, the more fatty substances you make. Even though you think you are healthy, it is still best if you keep these vices at a minimum or better yet stay away from them. You may not notice its negative effects at the moment but you may suffer from it years after.
4. Diet. A hard habit to break. When we are used to eating fast foods, it would be really hard to say no to them. Not only that, there are also dishes that are very high in fat content. This kind of diet can also contribute to the incidence of stroke. So while it is still early, it would be best if you start eating healthy balanced meals. Less on fat more on fiber.
5. Control or treat risk factors. There are a lot of risk factors for stroke some of which are high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. If you don't have any of these conditions yet it would be best if you maintain a healthy lifestyle. In case you already have this condition the best thing you can do is to control it for high blood pressure and keep it at a safe level. For diabetes, keep your sugar levels in check and for heart diseases, always have a regular check up and of course eat healthy.
You don't have to suffer from the debilitating effects of stroke. All you have to do is to prevent it. Stroke is like a thief that attacks at night and there's no better way to protect yourself than prevention.
