Three Ways To Stay Healthy During A Cold Spell
When it is cold outside, it gets kind of hard to stay in shape especially when the roads are too dangerous to be driven on. Something like getting to the gym would already prove to be quite dangerous, not to mention the extremely slippery roads. Things like these often force people to have to stay home even when they would really want to go to the gym.
Does this mean that we could eat and do whatever we want since we're getting a free “do not go to the gym today” pass? It should definitely not. Staying healthy and keeping fit would mean that despite all this hectic weather, we need to make do with what we have and try to stay fit amidst all this ruckus.
1. Some push ups and sit ups go a long way on a cold winter day.
Since it is too cold outside to jog, and it is definitely advisable to leave your car home due to the extremely slippery condition roads happen to be in, exercising at home would mean that you would have to go back to the basics. These are exercises like push ups and sit ups that are both quite effective and are relatively easy to perform anywhere you choose to do it.
If you happen to notice in the movies, Bruce Wayne usually starts up his day by doing a number of push ups directly after he gets out of bed. Sit ups on the other hand, well, practically everybody does this. So the next time you remain indoors and try to wait out this weather, you're going to have to make do with these for the meantime. These exercises will respectively strengthen your muscles in the chest area and in your core. Sure it is no cardio workout, but at least you manage to be productive anyway despite all the cold weather right?
2. If you have a treadmill or a cross trainer at home, hop on it – ASAP!
Jogging indoors is almost as good as the real thing. In fact, during really cold weather, it might just actually be something you wish you have had all along. Being able to work up a sweat indoors in the comfort of your own home would help you stay in shape during some really cold weather. Having a treadmill at home would mean that you could run for an indefinite period of time until you feel that you've burned enough calories already.
3. Staying indoors could increase the temptation of eating too much so do not even get the idea of picking up that twinkie.
Sometimes, when we don't have anything better to do, our appetites get the better of us by telling us that we feel a bit hungry. There's nothing wrong about eating food when you're hungry, it's just that if you just ate an hour ago and already you're craving for something else, maybe you should think twice before you chomp down on your next snack or meal.
