Life certainly is a paradox. We work hard and sacrifice our bodies to gain wealth. And as we acquire that wealth, we consume it on trying to get back our health. Is this really what we want out of life? To throw away our health in exchange for a quick buck and end up regretting it at the end? There are many ways for us to avoid this fate that so many may have suffered over the years. It's simple really. All you need to do is to consider the following.

1. Eat right

Having good health doesn't just mean you should exercise more often, but instead you too should be careful of the food you eat. It is very common for a person to eat more than he/she should because they aren't satisfied. There are many ways to solve this problem. Perhaps one of the most effective of them is to substitute food with high fat content with healthier options like oatmeal and granola bars. Try putting down that soda can and instead pick up a glass of water. Eating the right kinds of food means that you are feeding your body the right nutrients for it to be healthy. Remember the saying that goes "An apple a day keeps the doctor away?" Well, there actually is quite a lot of truth in that.

2. Exercise regularly

According to studies, the minimum amount of time an adult requires for exercise is at least 30 minutes per day repeated over five times in a week. Exercising regularly is a very important part to staying healthy because it allows you to maintain a healthy weight and quite possibly delay or prevent diabetes and other illnesses. There are many forms of exercise and it doesn't really matter which one you choose. In fact you can choose the form of exercise that you find most interesting. There are a wide variety of exercises to choose from. One can engage in sports like swimming, basketball, and cycling. Swimming, in fact, is an ideal sport for asthmatic people since it allows their lungs to become stronger. It is also beneficial to do a little stretching and weight training to strengthen your body and improve your flexibility.

3. Get rid of those vices

You heard it right, vices. Vices like drinking and smoking are one of the reasons why people aren't as healthy as they would like to be during their 50's or 60's. Excessive drinking can cause extensive damage to your liver while smoking can have a very devastating effect to your body. Aside from nicotine, there are many other chemicals that can be found in cigarettes that are also harmful to the body. These chemicals are responsible for some illnesses like lung cancer, cancer of the throat, and many more. The good news is that you can still do something to improve your health. It's never too late to drop that bad habit and pick up a winning attitude. Invest your time in exercising and other productive activities instead of engaging in vices like drinking and smoking.
